Gabriel A. Torres
Director of Undergraduate Studies
Ph.D., Cultural Anthropology, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM
Dr. Gabriel Torres is a cultural anthropologist who explores questions of race, gender, and nation in contested geographical spaces. He has studied the relationship between institutional politics and everyday life along the Spanish-Moroccan borderland and in a Jamaican Maroon enclave. Closer to home, Gabriel has researched how athletes enact various social identities—particularly through the sport of boxing. Finally, he is involved in a long term collaboration that explores the intellectual history of the culture concept and intersections of American Anthropology and American Philosophy.
