Dr. Bolten works on issues related to violence, morality, and development in Sierra Leone.  She is currently pursuing research on the experiences of youth with education, unemployment, social hierarchies and development policy through the lens of structural violence. Dr. Bolten is writing a manuscript on loyalty and survival during the war in Sierra Leone, as well as one on political scapegoating among ideologically weak governments in pre-war Sierra Leone.
