A children's book by Notre Dame anthropology alumna Jessica Fries-Gaither '99 will be read aloud from the International Space Station as part of the Story Time From Space program.
Her book, Notable Notebooks: Scientists and Their Writings, has been packed into a resupply rocket scheduled to launch from Kennedy Space Center in Florida on Monday, Aug. 14.
Once it arrives at the International Space Station, the book will be read aloud by an astronaut. The video will be posted online for use in science classrooms around the world.
"It's an honor to have had Notable Notebooks selected for this program,” Fries-Gaither said in a press release from the National Science Teachers Association. "It's such a thrill to imagine my book on the rocket and, ultimately, the International Space Station. It's every author's dream to share her work with the world—and Story Time from Space does just that.”
