For Undergraduates

Study Abroad

Cairo, Dublin, Perth, and Puebla

The Department of Anthropology encourages our majors and minors to participate in four exceptionally strong study abroad programs because they have excellent anthropology and archaeology departments. The four programs include Cairo, Dublin, Perth, and Puebla. For these four programs only, students will be allowed to use nine credits towards their anthropology major or minor, rather than the usual six credits.

In addition, we have designated one course in each program as fulfilling a Fundamentals requirement: ANTH 30102 in Dublin, and ANTH 30103 in the three other programs:

Cairo: ANTH 34033 Cultural Anthropology (equivalent to ANTH 30103)
Dublin: ANTH 34022 Exploring Archaeology (equivalent to ANTH 30102)
Perth: ANTH 34034 Being Human: Culture, Identity, and Society (equivalent to ANTH 30103)
Puebla: ANTH 34035 Seminar in Cultural Anthropology (equivalent to ANTH 30103)

Notre Dame offers a variety of other opportunities for students who wish to study abroad. Visit the Office of International Studies to learn more. Download a list of anthropology courses pre-approved for study abroad programs.

Please note: The Department will not evaluate a course for anthropology credit if:

  • A syllabus or equivalent is not provided; and
  • It is not an anthropology course or
  • It is not taught by an anthropologist.

Students, visit with your advisor to determine if your international study can be approved and to help determine which study abroad programs are most appropriate for your personal and professional needs. After visiting with your advisor, please take the Advisor Approval for Study Abroad Form (below) to a department staff person. Your approval will be noted online promptly.  Once you have registered for your course(s), please send a confirmation email to Mrs. Schumacher at schumacher.22@nd.edu.
