Phoenix holds a B.A. in Anthropology from California State University, Long Beach (2019). As an NIH-funded BUILD Scholar, Phoenix's undergraduate research included secondary data analysis of TEST (Transgender Experience STudy), a study conducted by Dr. Zachary DuBois utilizing mixed methods approaches concerning transgender men's health, and ethnographic research on the barriers to accessing outreach services for individuals experiencing homelessness in Long Beach, CA with the HERE (Homelessness Ethnographic Research and Education) Lab.
Currently, Phoenix is interested in biocultural and political economic approaches to study stigma in relation to health outcomes and health inequities for individuals experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness.
