Prof. Alex Chávez Receives Collaborative Research Grant for Humanities Without Walls Consortium

Author: Anthropology Dept.

Anthropology Professor Alex E. Chávez was a recipient of a collaborative research grant from the Humanities Without Walls consortium on the theme of “The Global Midwest” funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. As co-principal investigator of the team, the main focus of their work was to examine how Latina/o visual and performing arts advance collective social expression of globalization in the Midwestern United States. The edited volume titled Latina/o Aesthetics in the Global Midwest, which he is co-editing, is currently under review at the University of Illinois Press. In addition, one other major deliverable is now complete—an interactive website that features their research and the artists they all worked with in this extensive endeavor that truly exemplifies the wonderful possibilities of both publicly engaged scholarship and collaborative research. You can access the site here: http://latinoartmidwest.com/
