Aven Al Qatameen

Biography

Aven Al Qatameen is a Ph.D. student in Anthropology at the University of Notre Dame whose work bridges anthropology and archaeology, with a focus on Neolithic Southwest Asia. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Yarmouk University (2013) and a master’s degree in Archaeology from the University of Jordan (2017). Her master’s research examined Neolithic burial practices and human skeletal remains through anthropological and archaeological perspectives.

Before joining Notre Dame, Aven worked as a university lecturer and researcher in anthropology and archaeology. She gained field experience at Neolithic archaeological sites in Jordan and received specialized training in archaeological survey and anthropology, and the analysis of human skeletal remains in Jordan and Germany. She also contributed to UNESCO-supported and community-engaged archaeology and cultural heritage projects.

Her current research examines mortuary practices, landscape, mobility, social organization, resilience, and human-environment interactions in Neolithic Jordan. She has presented her work at international conferences and has received several academic scholarships, fellowships, and research grants supporting her archaeological and anthropological training.
