Phoebe Zhou is a PhD student in the Department of Anthropology. Prior to Notre Dame, Phoebe studied medical anthropology at the University of Edinburgh, where she wrote an MSc thesis about depression in China. She also holds an MPhil and a BA from the University of Hong Kong. Phoebe's PhD research builds on her MSc thesis to investigate the (bio)politics and subjectivities of depression in China. She is interested in looking at how the country's mental health landscape evolves under post-socialist transformations and is becoming a critical domain where governance and interiorities are negotiated or contested.
