Lexi Gonzalez Madrid

Biography

Lexi holds a Master’s in Anthropology from Georgia State University (2018) and a B.A. in Ethnohistory from the National School of Anthropology and History in Mexico City (2013). Her undergraduate thesis research focused on agrarian history and Teenek identity in the Huastec region in Mexico.

Lexi is interested in legal anthropology and, as a Ph.D student, intends to examine narratives and discourses on gender violence in legal processes. She is interested in how Indigenous women in the Huastec conceptualize gender violence, the discourses and narratives on justice and safety from victims and judiciary systems, and how Indigenous justice systems function and negotiate with hegemonic structures.

Lexi has six years of professional experience in domestic violence organizations working with immigrant families in the US. She is also a fellow at the Kellogg Institute for International Studies at the University of Notre Dame.
