Yun Xie

Biography

Yun holds an M.A. in Culture Studies from Dartmouth College and a B.A. in Religion from Peking University, China. Her master’s thesis studies how state governance becomes embedded in the daily life of Chinese fan circle girls through “culture governance (wenhua zhili)” and “society governance (shehui zhili).” At Notre Dame, she hopes to continue investigating how the Chinese state strives to maintain its authority in guiding young women’s values at a time when the rapid modernization of China has introduced fiercely conflicting ideologies into the everyday life of the Chinese. Aiming to understand the interrelations between the personhood, values, and dispensations, Yun is specifically interested in state governance, media policies and mass mediation, affect, gender, and critical theories. Yun is a Richard and Peggy Notebaert Premier Fellow.
